Green Lighting For All Occasions

With the popularity of “green” thinking rising, ways to save money, energy and at the same time help the environment are becoming more and more accessible tot he every day person. You don’t have to have a bike generator in your living room to watch TV to be environmentally conscious either. Sometimes all it takes is being a little savvy about your purchases, especially when it comes to making the right choices in lighting. Lighting, particularly in recent years, has made leaps and bounds in the technology available leaving you with no shortage of choices to suit your lighting needs.

The most common and least efficient type of lighting is with incandescent bulbs. They’re the cheapest initial cost, but within a years’ time the bulb costs you nearly two hundred times its value in electricity costs. The biggest problem is that it’s most commonly pre-installed in most of your home’s lights and is the most accessible kind of bulb. Next up are CFL helix bulbs, they produce more light for less electricity than incandescent bulbs, giving you much more bang for your buck in conservation. The best bulbs available are LED bulbs which cost the most initially but with their massive life span and fractional energy costs, they pay for themselves in the first year’s savings over traditional bulbs.

For outdoor lighting, the best way to go is with solar lights. Solar lights absorb sunlight all day, storing energy in internal power cells to power the lights at night. You buy them once and they literally power themselves. If you’re using anything other than solar lights for outdoor lighting you’re just about cheating yourself. Making the right choices in green lighting can seem a bit daunting at first, but with the right information you’ll be saving money in no time.
