Anaheim Public Utilities wants to help its customers who want to install new solar power systems in their homes or businesses, by offering a rebate program.
The Anaheim Solar Energy Incentive was initiated in 2001, and is available for qualified homes, business, and schools. It was created in compliance with California Bill 1, or “the Million Solar Roofs Bill.”
Not every solar power system in Anaheim is qualified for the buyback program. If you would like to qualify, your system must be installed by a certified contractor. Once you’ve chosen an installer, apply for the incentive with the City of Anaheim Public Utilities. The solar power system should comply with Anaheim’s Building Department code and requirements.
The rate of the incentive decreases annually. For 2009 to 2010, the Expected Performance Based Incentive, or EPBI, for residential customers is $3.72 per watt generated. Come fiscal year 2016 to 2017, the rate will be $2.24 per watt. For commercial customers, a maximum of 30 kW is eligible for the EPBI, except for those installed under the power purchase agreements that fall under the Performance Based Incentive (PBI).
The incentives should not exceed the historical needs of the customer at the site of the solar power system. One of the requirements for systems is that they produce a minimum of 1,000 watts. A maximum of one megawatt capacity is eligible for the incentive. Small installations, or DIY set-ups, are disqualified. Equipment must also have ten-year warranties against breakdown. System providers are required to offer a ten-year warranties on solar modules, and additional ten-year warranties on power inverters.
Interested customers of the Anaheim Public Utilities should first conduct an audit of the amount of energy they use in their homes. They can do this with the free Home Utility Checkup. This will help the customers understand how they use energy, and how they can save.
