Benton PUD Rebate Programs

In Washington State, Benton PUD has various incentives in place for its residential and commercial customers. It promotes the use of energy-efficient devices by offering rebates on Energy Star appliances.

Products with the “Energy Star” seal are designed to save energy. These products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Department of Energy and the US Environmental Protection Agency. Only a selected few are entitled to be included in the short list of appliances which bear the “Energy Star” seal.

Using an Energy Star appliance will be rewarding for the consumer, and it’s not just because of the rebate offered by the Benton PUD. Energy Star washing machines use 50% less energy than conventional washers. When heat is provided by an Energy Star electric water heater, the rebate is $70. If the heat is provided by an Energy Star gas water heater, then the rebate is $25.

An Energy Star dishwasher uses 25 percent less energy than typical ones available on the market. In its lifetime, it can save around $100, due to less hot water usage. As an added bonus, buyers are also qualified for a $25 rebate.

People might think that Energy Star refrigerators are inferior to the standard ones, but that is not the case. There are Energy Star refrigerators with improved insulation, defrost features, and precise temperature control, which use 40% less energy. Owners of these appliances are eligible for a $25 rebate.

Most households use 14 to 25 percent of their energy on water heating. Residents of Benton County can reduce their water heating bills by using Energy Star water heaters. They consume less energy, and are eligible for a $25 rebate.

Benton PUD also offers rebates to buyers of Energy Star manufactured homes. These homes are designed to save up to 30 percent on heating bills, through their ceilings, walls, and floor insulations – as well as better doors and windows; ventilation system; and sealed heating ducts. To qualify, homes should be located within Benton PUD’s jurisdiction. Qualified homeowners will receive $750.

Benton PUD rebate programs are valid until September 30, 2009, or until funds are exhausted. Benton County residents should take advantage of this program. And even those who are not qualified for this rebate program can use energy-efficient appliances in their homes to save on energy bills.
