In Washington State, Clallam County PUD is serious about its commitment to conserve energy, and it wants its customers to be the same. That’s why it offers various rebates and incentives for its residential users. These rebates are for energy efficiency improvements as well as for solar energy system purchases.
Clallam County PUD is offering an incentive of $500 per kilowatt capacity of solar energy systems in their area of service. These systems must be connected to their power grid. The rebate will be given once the system is completely installed and verified by a Clallam County PUD service representative.
Aside from that, residential, non-residential, and governmental customers with approved wind, solar, and/or biomass energy systems are eligible to receive incentives in the In-State Production Incentive for Renewable Energy Development Program, or INSPIRED. Depending on the type of system, the incentives can range from $0.12 to $0.54 per kilowatt hour, with a maximum of $2,000 each year. The INSPIRED Program requires that the system has a PUD-installed revenue grade production meter. It must also comply with the program’s regulations and procedures. There will be random audits of the systems and the production meter made by the PUD representative.
There are also rebates available for residential customers purchasing Energy Star appliances, such as freezers, refrigerators, clothes washers, dishwashers, lighting, and manufactured homes. To be qualified for an Energy Star rebate, the person must be a current Clallam County PUD customer, the appliance must be brand new, and it must have been purchased within the past year.
A high-efficiency water heater that can store at least 50 gallons is eligible for a $50 rebate. Hard-wired compact fluorescent light fixtures are eligible for a $20 rebate. An installation of a shower drain-water heat recovery system will give the homeowner a $220 rebate. Drain-water heat recovery systems use the heat of hot water going down the drain, to preheat cold water entering the water heater or other water fixtures.
Other rebates and incentives available for Clallam County residents include a $350-$750 duct sealing incentive, $300-$2,400 high-efficiency heat pump incentive, and a $6 per square foot window incentive. These incentives require a pre-approval from the PUD before installation. To be eligible, the projects must be done by a PUD-certified contractor.
