Connecticut Clean Energy Fund implemented a Residential Solar Thermal Incentive Program in the hopes of stimulating development of renewable energy and creating more green jobs in the state.  The federal government provides funding for this program, which is open to Connecticut residences, businesses and organizations that wish to install solar hot water systems.

The solar thermal incentive is available for both new constructions and existing structures or retrofits, although solar hot water systems used for pool heating or space heating do not qualify for the incentive.  The program will end when funding is exhausted, at which point the program will be evaluated to decide whether to continue it or not.

Citizens of Connecticut can avail of the incentives through designated installers of solar thermal systems.  The rebates are intended for systems that supply 50-80% of the customer’s annual hot water demands.

For residential customers, the maximum incentive is $4800 for a five to six person household; $3600 for a three to four person household; and $2400 for a single to two person household.  For commercial establishments, the maximum incentive is $50,000.  For non-profit and government organizations, the maximum incentive is $82,500.

Applications for the solar thermal incentive program are accepted online, or the applicants can print the application form and mail them to CCEF.  Applicants must be sure they include all the required documents when they send in their application form.

The rebate amount will be based on the Solar Rating and the Certification Corporation (SRCC) predicted Btu production of the solar thermal system.  The CCEF wants to encourage installations that maximize system output during the winter months, which is why the incentives are based on the predicted output from October through March.
