Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO) a utility company of northwest Florida is has of recently started offering net metering to residential and commercial customers with photovoltaic (PV) or wind energy systems up to 10 kilowatts (kW) in capacity.
Net metering is the practice of allowing owners of renewable energy sources to automatically sell any excess electricity generated by their solar panels or wind turbines back to the utility company. The advantage of combining renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind turbines with net metering, is staying connected to the electrical grid. This way you avoid having to install battery back-up power for periods when your residential energy production is low, as you can still draw power from the utility company.

That is a great system. Both the home owner and the utility company benefit greatly from this arrangement. Plus it helps move us away from our oil dependency.
This would really encourage people to use renewable energy. I admire the company that they’d provide incentives to their consumers. Some other companies should follow in their steps.
We have to make the process of feeding back into the grid simple. The simpler that we make it the more that those who conserve can be recognised.
