In September 2008, my power bill was $625.79. When I opened the bill I just about blew a gasket, and out of pure frustration I began thinking about how to reduce this massive monthly payment. I changed out all the light bulbs to CFL. I went from three computer monitors to two. I lowered the temperature on the water heater by about 20 degrees. But those steps were nothing compared to what I found available right on my roof.

Image via Wikipedia When people talk about solar power, they usually are referring to the photovoltaic type. But there’s another type of solar power and it’s starting to gain some ground over its photovoltaic power. This is concentrated solar power, or CSP solar energy, which is the solar energy that’s generated when one concentrates sunlight [...]

Solar electric systems, also called photovoltaic (PV) systems, convert sunlight into electricity. This is done using solar cells, the basic building blocks of PV systems. Solar cells are made out semiconductor materials, silicone being one of the most common semiconductor materials. When sunlight is absorbed by a semiconductor (as in a solar panel) the sunlight [...]

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone! Over the next few days, in the US at least, there will be some great opportunities to save on Christmas Shopping. Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) is the traditional day for offline shopping. But online the saving time period extends for a few more days until “Cyber Monday.” Solar chargers and [...]

China has developed a reputation as one of the world’s leading producers of the pollutants which contribute to Global Warming. It is also a leading producer of manufactured goods which are exported to North and South America, Europe, and Africa, and the factories which produce these goods are not the most eco-friendly on Earth. Rapid [...]
